What are BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD?
These two nootropic blends are from the company BriteFocus. If that name sounds familiar to you, it's because we reviewed another one of their products, BriteSHOT, last summer. However, BriteSHOT is no longer available.
BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD are two nootropic blends that are scientifically formulated to compliment each other. BriteSMART is a nootropic blend that can improve memory and create a sense of calm focus. BriteSHIELD, on the other hand, is a neuroprotective blend designed to detox your brain and restore it back to optimal health.
Each proprietary, patent-pending formula contains ingredients designed to work together to create powerful nootropic and neuroprotective effects. Here are the ingredients of each product:
BriteSMART
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR)
– Shown to have a number of nootropic benefits and can even aid in fat loss.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) – A powerful antioxidant and neuroprotector.
Vinpocetine – Increases blood flow to the brain and has several nootropic properties.
Huperzine A – Known to have several nootropic benefits, huperzine A has also been shown to be neuroprotective.
Rhodiola Rosea – An adaptogenic nootropic, this plant can boost mood, decrease anxiety, and improve overall cognitive performance.
BriteSHIELD
R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (R-ALA) – Another form of ALA, this one increases glutathione levels in the brain which is an antioxidant and neuroprotector.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) – This is an amino acid with powerful antioxidant and neuroprotective actions. May also help reduce obsessive thinking and other unwanted thoughts.

Resveratrol – This is the ingredient in wine that makes it good for you. Resveratrol may slow aging and has been shown to extend the lifespan of simple organisms.

BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD Review
I'd been looking forward to trying these two products ever since I reviewed BriteSHOT over a year ago. I was impressed with BriteFocus, the company that makes them.
One serving of BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD is 2 capsules each. Each bottle contains 60 caps or 30 servings. The directions on both simply say to take 2 capsules daily with food.
I decided to start both on the same day and take them for two weeks. Based on the ingredient lists of both products, that seemed like enough time to notice many of their effects.
On most days, I took the 2 BriteSMART capsules in the morning and the 2 BriteSHIELD caps in the afternoon. I don't think it really matters when you take them, but it's probably best to take all of them earlier in the day. Neither product contains caffeine or any other powerful stimulants but, if taken too close to bedtime, they could potentially disrupt your sleep.
The first couple days I took BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD, I didn't notice much. To be fair, though, I wasn't expecting to notice much. I was familiar with all the ingredients and knew that most of them can take a while before their effects are felt.
After a few days of taking 2 capsules of each product, I started to notice that my mood was better than usual and I felt more relaxed. It wasn't a tired, lazy relaxed feeling – I felt energized and motivated but calm and focused at the same time.
Now, these effects were very subtle – but they were definitely noticeable and increased gradually over time. In fact, they continued to grow over the whole fourteen-day period. Some of the ingredients can take 2-4 weeks for their full effects to be noticeable so it's quite possible they would've continued to be more and more noticeable if I kept taking them.
I wish I had taken BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD for another couple weeks so I could've experienced their full benefits but, with so many nootropic products to review, I only have so much time to devote to each one. All things considered, though, I was happy with the results I got after just a couple weeks.
There's no question that these two products do what they are supposed to do. The ingredients are backed by science, they're easy to use, the packaging is attractive, and they're made by a company that didn't just pop up overnight (like many nootropic companies). However, I do have one criticism: the price.
If you were going to use both BriteSMART and BriteSHIELD every day, it would cost between $3-4 a day. That's a lot, considering there are plenty of nootropic blends on the market that cost less than a dollar a day to use. However, if you have the money, I think that both of these products are worth it.
If you were only going to try one of these two products, I'd recommend BriteSMART. While BriteSHIELD is a great product that offers some serious neuroprotection, the ingredients in BriteSMART are the ones that will have the biggest impact on focus, mood, and memory.
