Every year, more and more people are becoming interested in nootropics. Students, professionals, athletes, shift workers, and many others are using nootropics to be more productive, think sharper, and feel better.

Brain BulbWhen you first become interested in nootropics, it can be hard to know where to start. You may find yourself asking questions like:

  • “What exactly are nootropics?”
  • “Are they safe?”
  • “Which one should I try first?”

That's why I created this guide. Even if you've never even heard of nootropics until now, by the time you're done with this guide, you'll have an excellent understanding of what they are, how they work, and which ones are the safest and most effective.

So, what are nootropics?

Some people call them “smart drugs,” others call them “cognitive enhancers.” Whatever you call them, a nootropic is any substance that improves cognitive functioning.

Drugs, plants, herbs, teas, vitamins, minerals, and other substances can all be nootropics. Some have powerful cognition-enhancing properties while others are subtle and barely noticeable. Some are incredibly safe while others are known to have a long list of potential side effects.

Safety is something that everyone is concerned about. Most of the nootropics we talk about on this website are safe for most people, but it's always a good idea to check with your doctor before starting anything new.

Which nootropic should I try first?

You've learned a little bit about nootropics and want to try one. The only question is, which one? Or should you use a nootropic stack?

Many nootropics work great by themselves. However, a lot of them work even better when combined with other nootropics. Taking more than one nootropic at a time is called “stacking.”

Most nootropics are not sold in stores and have to be ordered online. Fortunately, Amazon carries many of them. Others can only be bought from nootropic websites. Unfortunately, not all online nootropic sellers are trustworthy.

We recommend you order from one of the companies listed in the “Where To Buy Nootropics” post linked below. They are all trusted vendors with excellent products. Here are some other resources to help you decide which nootropic(s) to try first:
