What is Ascent?
This is a nootropic blend created by the company Bionic Nutrition. In addition to Ascent, they have one other product: a complete meal replacement powder called Ailment. Bionic Nutrition is located in Utah and their products are manufactured in the United States.
Ascent, not to be confused with Ascend Focus, contains 14 ingredients: 13 nootropics and vitamin B6. All of its ingredients have been scientifically studied and shown to improve cognition in one or more ways.
Before we get to our Ascent review, let's take a look at these ingredients.
Ascent Ingredients
Uridine – A nucleotide that is naturally found in the body. Supplementing with Uridine can have a number of nootropic effects.
DHA (algae) – An omega-3 fatty acid that has been shown to play a role in brain health.
Bacopa Monnieri – An adaptogenic plant that can improve mood and reduce anxiety.
L-Theanine – An amino acid found naturally in green tea, l-theanine can reduce anxiety without causing sedation.
Rhodiola Rosea – Another adaptogenic plant that has been used for centuries to improve mood and other aspects of cognition.
Oat Straw – Taken from green oats, oat straw has been used since the middle ages to improve mood, increase cerebral blood flow, and improve overall cognition.
Lion's Mane – A mushroom that grows naturally in several parts of the world. Lion's mane has been used for centuries to improve mood, reduce anxiety, and increase productivity.
Alpha-GPC – A popular choline source. The body uses choline to make the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which plays a role in memory and other aspects of cognition.
NeuroFactor Whole Coffee Fruit Extract – A trademarked extract of the coffee plant that can stimulate the production of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). BDNF is known to play a role in the health an maintenance of neurons (brain cells).
Phosphatidylserine – An amino acid that may improve several aspects of cognitive performance.
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine – A more-soluble version of the amino acid l-tyrosine, which is a direct precursor to the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine is known to play a role in memory, mood, and motivation.
Organic Coffeeberry Energy – Extracted from the coffee plant, this contains substances that may protect brain cells and increase BDNF production.
Huperzine A – An herbal extract that is known to stop the breakdown of acetylcholine in the body.
As you can see, Ascent is packed with brain-boosting nootropics. Now that you know what's in it, let's get to the Ascent review.
Ascent Review
When I first got my hands on this product, I was excited because it contains three ingredients I've never tried before. That's something that doesn't happen very often. I've been reviewing nootropics for five years now and using them for much longer. Most products contain more or less the same ingredients. It's refreshing to see a product with something different.
The ingredients I'm talking about are coffeeberry, NeuroFactor, and oat straw. After researching all three of them, I'm convinced they're perfectly safe and may improve the effectiveness of this product. They all have at least some science behind them to support their use as nootropics.
Ascent comes in an attractive bottle with an easy-to-read label. One serving is 2 capsules and that's what I took every day for two weeks. I took them shortly after waking up every morning with my usual cup of coffee or green tea.
The first day I took Ascent, I noticed a modest improvement in productivity. I didn't feel overly stimulated or anything like that, but I did stay focused on my work throughout the day. The next few days were the same. I didn't feel much differently, but I did breeze through my work and seemed to have a little more energy than usual.
The second week that I was taking Ascent is where this product really started to shine. I felt like my mood was better and I was more motivated than usual. Though I (almost) always enjoy my work, I found myself getting into things more than usual.
A lot of the ingredients in Ascent can take several weeks to really start working, so I wasn't surprised by this. Many of the nootropic products I've reviewed in the past worked better during the second week than in the first. This one, however, I feel worked way better in the second week.
I think this may have to do with the three ingredients I mentioned above. All of them probably take several weeks to really start to have a noticeable effect. I wish that I had more time to give Ascent a longer trial but, with so many products to review, I have to limit my use to two weeks per product.
After taking Ascent for those two weeks, I can say that it delivers what it promises. The bottle lists focus, memory, and clarity as its benefits and it definitely improved all three. This is a good product and should be beneficial for most people.
The only criticism that I have about Ascent is the price. With 13 ingredients, I'm not surprised by the price because it probably costs a lot to manufacture, especially since it's made in the United States. However, if you're on a budget, there are cheaper products available that I'd recommend first.
That being said, Ascent is a solid nootropic product and I would recommend it to anyone who isn't on a tight budget. I would especially recommend Ascent to anyone who has tried other nootropic products but didn't get the results they wanted. The extra ingredients in Ascent may give you the benefits you're looking for.
You can buy Ascent from the Bionic Nutrition website or you can get it on Amazon.
so what are the cheaper options that you recommend?
One that comes to mind off the top of my head is Mind and Zen by Wellpath but there are others. Check out our other reviews section for others. Thanks for the comment!
Edit: I’m not positive, but I think that Ascent’s price has come down a little bit since I posted this review. I could be wrong but I remember it being a bit higher.
This supplement has a lot of ingredients, how do you compare it with other supplements that promise the same effects, but with less ingredients?
At 2 capsules per serving, how much is that in a month? does it even last for a month?
Anyways, nice review and site!
I didn’t find Ascent to have much more of an effect than other similar products with less ingredients. That being said, it did work well and delivers what it promises. Each bottle has 60 capsules so yes, it will last for 30 days. As of right now, a bottle of Ascent costs $39.99 on Amazon. I may be mistaken, but I think the price has actually come down since I wrote this review. As always, thanks for the comment and have a great day!
